But did you know that not only this version… Coca-Cola has already used different colored caps, such as the black and green one, and the green lid. This version of the drink, known internationally as ‘Life’, arrived in Brazil in 2016 with its green lid and promise of being healthier than the original option, featuring a 50% reduction in sugar content. The soft drink brand has already used different colored caps, do you know the meaning of the green cap?
We recently talked here at Degusta about Coca-Cola’s yellow cap, which has an impressive meaning and is little known to most consumers. But did you know that not only this version exists? Other caps, such as the black and green one, have also appeared in supermarkets and restaurants. In this text we will talk specifically about the green lid of Coca-Cola.
What does the green Coca-Cola cap mean?
Known internationally as “Life”, Coca-Cola Stevia arrived in Brazil in 2016 with its green lid and the promise of being healthier than the original option, featuring a 50% reduction in sugar content, using at opposite stevia leaves, a natural sweetener to brown sugar.
The drink, sweetened through a combination of both sweeteners, was intended to appeal to consumers who love Coca-Cola but want to reduce their daily sugar consumption.
The drink, identified by green labels and packaging, arrived on supermarket shelves in the first half of 2016, in 1.5 L and 1 L PET versions, in addition to the 350 ml can.
The company also took advantage of the support for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio, using the sport/health theme to promote this “new product” which was arriving in Brazil, but was already available in 25 other countries.
Previously, this version of Coca-Cola was not launched in Brazil due to regulation by the Ministry of Agriculture. Decree 6871/2009 prohibited soft drinks from mixing different types of sugars and sweeteners in their compositions. However, the authorization was definitively granted in December 2015, through ministerial decree no. 8,592.
Does Coca-Cola Stevia still exist in Brazil?
Although it arrived in our country much later, the drink with a lid and green packaging had not been seen for many years. This leads us to wonder what the fate of this impressive drink was.
According to a September 2018 Folha de São Paulo article, the company no longer sold the stevia version of the drink on the Brazilian market that year. Then no! She no longer exists. The extinction of the green drink came hand in hand with the decision to change the name from ‘Coca-Cola Zero’ to ‘Coca-Cola Without Sugar’.
