São Paulo
São Paulo is the largest city in Brazil, with more than 12 million inhabitants, covering 1,521 km² and the capital of the state of São Paulo of the same name. The Megapole is also the largest city in South America and is one of the ninth largest metropolitan area in the world with a population of about 21 million. São Paulo is a great place to be, because of its sheer size, it stretches along the suburbs about 100 km from east to west and 70 km from north to south. The city is Brazil's economic "harbor" and has the largest industrial conurbation of South America. Many of the largest national and international companies have their headquarters in Latin America. Socio-economic, the city has a stark difference between rich and poor. For example, noble neighborhoods can be located in the immediate vicinity of a favela (Portuguese for slum). story
The city was founded on 25 January 1554, when the first mass was celebrated by some Jesuits in the fields of piratininga. The first settlement consisted of a simple hut, later a school was added, the "Escola de São Paulo de Piratininga". So the city came to its name. Today's place Pátio do Colégio of the former school is located in the Centro Histórico (historical center).
The area remained isolated for a long time because the productivity of local sugar cane plantations was not particularly high. It was only in the 17th century that wheat was grown for export in the region. The city was given the town's right in 1711.

There are no high-speed passenger trains. Major capitals and major cities of other Brazilian states are served either by long-distance buses or by domestic flights. The CPTM trams pass to the suburbs of São Paulos. There are efforts to develop rail transport, but the planning has so far been on paper.
- The Expresso Turístico. only offers weekend trips between the Estação da Luz railway station in São Paulo to Paranapiacaba (about 55 km), Mogi das Cruzes (about 48 km) and Jundiaí (about 60 km). The trips are designed as day trips from Estação da Luz exit at 8:30 am and return at 4:30 pm. Price: R$ 50 (1 person), R$ 82 (2 persons).

On the street
The streets of the state of São Paulo are usually in much better shape than the surrounding states. Much of this road network consists of privately managed toll roads.
The main access roads and motorways to and from São Paulo:
Anchieta (SP-150) and
Imigrantes (SP-160) are the main connections of the metropolitan area to the port in Santos, the steel and chemical industry, as well as oil refineries in Cubatão and the industry of the ABCD region. By ship
The nearest port is in the town, some 65 mi away 7 Santos with berths for cruise ships. The port city can be reached in about 1.5 hours by car from São Paulo via the two motorways 
Anchieta (SP-150) or 
Imigrantes (SP-160). The two major rivers Rio Pinheiros and Rio Tietê are quiet waters and offer no navigation but are both extremely polluted.

São Paulo has a metro system (Metrô) and eight metro lines (CPTM), which are the fastest means of transport in the chronically congested metropolitan area.

There is a well developed bus network with several hundred bus and bus lines (Trolleybus), which are divided into several categories, including express lines. Inaugurated in 1974, the metro (metro de São Paulo or metropolitano de São Paulo) is the oldest in Brazil and consists of six color lines. If a subway line is specified by locals, the corresponding coloring is usually reported, and not line 1, line 2, etc. The line 1 becomes linha azul, the line blue. The city trains run by the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) are similar to the S-Bahn and only operate in the São Paulos metropolitan area. On the street
The sheer size, the constant threat of traffic accidents, helps to make São Paulo's streets seem confusing and confusing. The rush hour is between 6:00am and 9:00am and 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Traffic is annoying, and even outside peak times, when you have to count several hours of delays, local traffic jams can happen again and again. In summer in particular, frequent rainfall leads to flooding and blackouts in the electricity grid, leading to unfunctioning traffic lights. In the case of rain, there are also many minor accidents which can lead to long waiting times.
It is practically impossible for visitors to orient themselves without a navigation device. However, it is important to take care not to be sent to a dangerous area inadvertently. Many areas of the city are poor neighborhoods or slums, and it is very difficult for the uninitiated to estimate what that means for personal security. Many poor areas are relatively harmless, others are not, so it is good to know what to do!
Driving or renting a car is generally not recommended for visitors, as besides traffic jams, finding parking is just as important a problem. The paulistanos are relatively chewed and cooperative drivers for Brazilian conditions and compliance with the most important traffic rules can be assumed. However, a very defensive driving is recommended!

In order to reduce air pollution and congestion, a driving ban (Rodízio de veículos or also Operação Horário de Pico) has been in force since 1996 during the rush hour in São Paulo for cars from 7:00am to 10:00am and from 5:00pm to 8:0 pm. Private and commercial cars with the following end numbers in the license plate shall not drive during this period on the following days:

The traffic ban does not extend to the whole of São Paulo, but to the region shown here. The ban is lifted on weekends, holidays and during school holidays. As there are always exceptions, it is advisable to check with local people or the hotel staff beforehand.

If you are not a local, you should take a taxi, especially after dark.
- Uber: As in most of Brazil's major cities, a Uber ride is cheaper than a taxi: Uber in São Paulo
- Taxi: The normal taxis are white and can be found at specially equipped taxi stands, near major venues or in the city center.
- radio taxi: Have a better reputation and are welcome by tourists but are more expensive and have to be ordered by phone.

São Paulo has many sights and cultural attractions and offers. The city can legitimately claim to be the cultural center of Latin America, with its 101 museums, 146 libraries and around 40 cultural centers, as well as numerous popular festivals and fairs. In line with the city’s unstinting urban growth, most historic buildings in the 20th century have given way to contemporary buildings. This means that most of the attractions are concentrated in the catchment area of the city center, the so-called "Centro Histórico", where neo-gothic cathedrals are shaded by skyscrapers. The traditional immigrant neighborhoods are also located around the city center. - 2 Municipal Museum Father José de Anchieta (Museu Municipal Beato José de Anchieta), Largo Páteo do Colégio 2. Tel: +55 11 3105 6899. The museum is located right next to the Church of São José de Anchieta and comprises 6 rooms with different themes from the 16th century to the 20th century. The collection includes sacred works of art, excavations from the interior and exterior of the Pátio, as well as instruments and objects made by the indigenous population at the time. In the building there are two original stone-clad walls, representing the very first walls of the town. Opened: Mon closed. Di - 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- 3 St. José de Anchieta Church (Igreja São José de Anchieta), Largo Pátio do Colégio 34. Tel: +55 11 3105 6899. Built by the Jesuits from 1554, the cabins were built in the 17th century with a church and a Jesuite colonial-style college. In the 18th century, the building ensemble was forcibly expelled from the Jesuits. The current building, dating from 1954, has been patron of Father José de Anchieta, blessed by Pope John Paul II. In the church there is an oratory with the supposed robes and thighs José de Anchieta. Opened: Measure Di, Mi, Thou, Fri 12 o'clock. That's 10 o'clock.
- 4 Pillar in honor of the founders of São Paulos (Memorial dos Fundadores da Cidade de São Paulo): In 1925 the Italian sculptor Amadeo Zani built the 25m high pillar on Pátio do Colégio. The above female figure is supposed to represent the city of São Paulo. Also included are indigenous figures who were involved in the construction of the city.
- 5 judicial secretariat (Secretaria da Justiça do Estado de São Paulo): The two listed buildings at the Páteo do Colégio were built between 1869 and 1888 in the style of the Belle Époque Tropical and planned by the architectural firm Ramos de Azevedo. House No. 148 was the seat of the Agricultural Secretariat, house No. 184 was the seat of the Tax Office. Today, both buildings are located in the São Paulo State Justice Secretariat.
- 6 Mansion of Marchioness de Santos (Solar da Marquesa de Santos), Rua Roberto Símonsen 136, 01017-020 São Paulo (Centro). Tel: +55 11 3241 1081. Historical building from the mid 17th century and former residence of the Marquesa de Santos, mistress of Peter I. (Dom Pedro I), who lived here from 1834 to 1867. Some of the old braided walls are still present with a stillage. Nowadays, the rooms are used for exhibitions. Opened: Mon closed, Di - So 9 - 5 pm. Price: free.
- 7 house no. 1 (Casa Número Um), Rua Roberto Simonsen 136 B, 01017-020 São Paulo. The name of the house is derived from the old street name Rua do Carmo, house no. 1. Old residential registers show that since 1689, a house has been in the form of a steam mill. The present building was built around 1880 on the old Stampflehmausen. Inside, the original tiled floors, the wooden staircase and some murals are preserved.

8 São Paulo (Catedral Metropolitana de São Paulo, also Catedral da Sé), Praça da Sé, 01001-000 São Paulo (Centro / Sé). The history of the São Paulo Cathedral dates back to 1591 when it was decided to build a main church. This building was completed in 1616, and a new baroque building was built in 1764. The current cathedral, built between 1913 and 1967, is often referred to as the fourth largest neo-gothic cathedral in the world, despite its Renaissance dome. Under the main altar there is a large crypt with 30 tombs of bishops and archbishops of the city. It also buried the chief of Tibiriçá dos Guaianás, who played an important role in the founding of São Paulo and Regent Feijó, who was the head of state during the period of the regime.
9 St. Anthony Church (Igreja de Santo Antônio), Praça do Patriarca 49, São Paulo. The listed church was first mentioned in 1592 and is thus one of the oldest sacred buildings in the city. Only the current front was completed between 1899 and 1919. The interior of the church still preserves much of the original colonial-era furnishings. During restoration works in 2005, ceiling paintings from the 17th century above the high altar were rediscovered. They are the oldest known ceiling paintings of São Paulo. Built in 1780, the high altar is a beautiful example of Brazilian baroque carvings.
St. Benedict monastery
- 10 St. Benedict Monastery (Mosteiro de São Bento), Largo de São Bento 48, 01029-010 São Paulo (Centro Histórico). Tel: +55 11 3328 8799. The Benedictine monastery in the middle of the city center was founded on 14 July 1598. At present, the monastery is inhabited by 49 monks, noviats and postulators. 12 church of our dear wife of good death (Igreja Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte), Rua do Carmo 202, 01019-020 São Paulo. Tel: +55 11 3101 6889. The Brotherhood of Our Lady of Good Death was founded in 1728 and is characterized above all by the acceptance of persons of different origins or color. What was very extraordinary in colonial Brazil, a country that only abolished slavery in 1888. The church was built from 1802 to 1810 in a baroque colonial style, with a baptism. The 13Square of Remembrance (Largo da Memória / Ladeira da Memória). is one of the oldest addresses in the city and was once the gateway for merchants and their transport animals from the Tietê River, where there was a water supply for both humans and animals. The park is located in the south of the city, on the banks of the lake and the Guarapiranga dam of the same name. In total, the park covers 7% of the shore of the 28 km long lake. As in any major city in Latin America, São Paulo is at some risk of being the victim of a crime. You should leave your own papers in the hotel safe and carry only copies. Socio-economic problems
